Magoosh was incredibly helpful for me in my attempt to obtain a top GMAT score. I took the test 5 years ago, and scored a 620. Granted, I went in with no knowledge of the exam (didn’t know there was a quant and verbal section). I started using Magoosh because it seemed like a good product for a significantly lower price than the other tools offering similar score increases. I started using their 6 month beginners study plan, but things were going so well, that I decided to take a practice test to see where I stood. I realized that I was ready for the test, so I signed up and continued to use Magoosh every day to stay ready until test day. The videos and practice problems are awesome!
I decided to use Magoosh GMAT Premium since it is the most affordable course among other brands. I bought it with discount and paid only 60$. Magoosh provide application on smart phone which is really easy to use. I can study anytime when the wifi is available. I wish if Magoosh provide function to watch the videos offline, it will be much better.
For Quantitative section, Magoosh provides lots of great lesson videos which taught me many useful concepts and tips. The exercise in this section is adaptive and some of them are harder than the real ones.
For verbal section, Magoosh provide only fundamental concept videos. I think those videos are not really helpful except SC section. I am not a native speaker, so I think I need to build strong foundation in verbal. There are many exam in this section and I cannot complete all of them. Some are really difficult for me and they are not even similar to the real ones. In my opinion, Magoosh should update the lessons and exams since I don't think the video lessons help me to win the verbal.
Finally, since I work full time, I don't really have much time to study. I still cannot complete some of Magoosh exam. If I had more time, I think Magoosh would significantly help me. Thus, I recommend this courses if you need to improve Q scores. Magoosh really help me with Q section. I improve from Q 44 to Q 48. However, my V score become worse.
I was already familiar with the GMAT format having taken the test 3 months prior after a classroom course. Magoosh has an amazing amount of content for the price. This course has all the tools you need to self-study for the GMAT including access to a lot of practice questions, detailed explanations for each question, and video lessons. This site isn't the only self-study course out there but I think its definitely one of the most convenient and effective. The video explanations after each question is wonderful. I'm confident this score will get me exactly what I need.. Anyway, I found Magoosh extremely helpful and I highly recommend it.Ultimately I think Magoosh was a big help when combined with the MGMAT books and I would recommend Magoosh to friends.
Ok,
I I started preparing for my GMAT in September 2016 and Signed Up for the Magoosh Premium.
The Maths part was good.
I was getting 620+ on Magoosh CATS and GMATPrep Exams.
But on my Actual GMAT, I got 550.
I would not like to blame Magoosh for what happened but yes, their course is not for everyone, especially non-native English Speakers.
Their Maths course is good and the Questions are also OKOK.
But, after a certain point the questions start to repeat themselves and you start to memorize answers.
I would suggest people to only go in for that course if you are looking for a score boost in Quant at an economical rate.
I would reccomend E-GMAT for Verbal and Manhattan Books for Quant to Everyone along with atleast 1-2 hours everyday on GMATClub solving concept questions and Solving OG Questions.
I am rescheduling my GMAT in August and going along with E-GMAT and Manhattan Books coupled with OG and GMAT Club Concept Questions.
Hoping This will make a difference.
Here is my final verdict on Magoosh
Verbal - **
Two Stars as for an intermediate learner their content is good
Quant - ***
Three Stars as for a beginner they can get you half way, not full way
IR - **
Two Stars as for an intermediate learner their content is good
AWA - *****
They can get you the 6 score in AWA
I would like to start by saying that I feel as though I need to repay Magoosh back for the assistance they provided me during my 3 month study time and this is the best way I can show my appreciation. Yes, I truly believe their team and platform is that good.
What stands Magoosh apart from other companies? Dedication and less smoke and mirrors. What do I mean by the latter? There are two main things that really impressed me about Magoosh's approach. First, they actually recommend using material from other companies! Crazy, right? But Magoosh realized that Manhattan has done a pretty solid job writing in depth guides and instead of competing with Manhattan over guides, Magoosh embraces that fact and suggests that students include that in their curriculum. Second, Magoosh material is not overly difficult to scare students into buying more content. I have taken Veritas prep exams, don't get me started on the their verbal section, and Manhattan exams that are a lot more difficult than the actual test. While I can appreciate the concept of if I can do more difficult questions than I should be fine with easier questions on the actual test; however, I feel that this really affects the pacing of the test and timing strategies. Magoosh's question set is very similar to the actual test.
And finally the Magoosh team. I have nothing but the upmost respect for the team. I joined a free RC session with another company on the GMATclub forums and I am not sure if there was a cultural difference but I felt as those the presenter was extremely critical of the students. In my opinion there were moments of entrapment where the presenter would ask "why are you struggling with RC" and if you selected "can't concentrate on subject matter" the presenter would respond by saying "Do you not understand that this material is for 3 to 5 questions?" or "Is this not important to you?". That is not the type of motivation I needed in an area I am struggling in. I tried two free sessions from this company and realized it was not for me. This was mentioned because Mike McGarry at Magoosh expects the practice of excellence when posting, especially if it is regarding a verbal topic. The way that Mike handles the pursuit of excellence is vastly different from the other company because Mike takes the route of encouragement instead of belittlement. Please keep that in mind.
If you have any further questions regarding my experience with Magoosh feel free to send me a private message.
Bests of luck with your studying!
I started my prep by referring to books-Manhattan, Kaplan and more but realised soon that I am going all haywire in my approach. To structure it, I bought this course which after a promotional scheme, came at a very affordable cost. This is really a great course which has video based study modules dissected into different GMAT topics with videos ranging from 3-15 mins. It especially works well for people who are on the go and want to cramp up small study sessions basis the availability of time. You just have to be consistent and you can cover almost entire syllabus within a short period of time.
Quant section is extremely useful with focus being given on understanding the concept and not on just cramming some formulae or rote method of learning.
A word of caution here: this course alone will not take you to great heights of GMAT score. It's a really good course for beginners or for people who have no clue about where to start and are doing there prep all alone. By going through it, you will gain confidence which will allow you to attempt practice Qns from other sources/books and which is extremely important. Couple this course with some more additional resources and you'll be good to go.
Bottomline: Don't think much if you are just starting off...buy it and start learning from Day#1.
Neither would I say it is a great course nor would I say it's bad. It's okay okay types. In my opinion, every course teaches you something new that you didn't come across earlier. So, there were various things that I learnt from this one. Magoosh's math course is better than its verbal part. If you compare it with other courses, I would say e-gmat is a better choice since I got significant improvement from e-gmat & my score decreased with Magoosh. However, this doesn't mean magoosh is not a good one. Its just the individual preference. There are many people who find magoosh a good deal especially when you get such course at such a low price. For me, what I found very good in Magoosh is its math course at very competitive price with superb customer support. They provide money-back guarantee and when I didn't get any improvement, they were so quick to revert on that and returned the money as fast as they could. They even sent me an amazon gift card. So, all in all, I like their math offering with an awesome student support.
Happened to know Magoosh through one of the emails from UC Berkeley Haas, listed among recommended GMAT courses.
- GMAT score before: 690
- GMAT score after: 730
- Duration: 31 days
*Good
- Very structural approach on how I can customize my practice
- Good and detailed explanation to let me know how to avoid the same mistake
- Show recommended lesson at the bottom on answer: trust me, you will love this tool
- Wonderful customer service,: indeed i had 31 days away from my exam, but the CS officer was so kind to extend 1 day for free (from my purchase of 30-day package) so that i could review on my last day before exam.
*Bad
- They have multiple mobile apps like Flash card for Verbal, Maths... i hope they can integrate all into one app - one platform
Magoosh was a great tool. I took it in combination with a GMAT course, but ended up using Magoosh more heavily than any resources through the other course. The tutorial videos are brief and succinct, and the video and text explanations for every practice question were hugely helpful. Magoosh has practice tests, but also customized practice, so you can work on your timing for the exam in sets of 20 or 30 minutes, for example. What's especially helpful is that you can track your progress, and see any patterns of errors coming out of your practice. I would definitely recommend Magoosh for anyone thinking of taking the GMAT. Magoosh makes it incredibly easy to get started studying, and to keep studying.
I purchased Magoosh verbal+math for my GMAT preparation. The cost if very reasonable (99 dollars for one year) and it provides a great list of resources.
I especially like the Magoosh apps on IOS. It has a lot of videos for sentence correction and maths. I can watch a video on my way to work. The video is very easy to understand and you can also adjust the speed to make it faster.
The website also provides a lot of practice questions and mock exams. Overall, I think it helps me a lot to score 740 in my first attempt. I would recommend it.
wow... this was the most veridical feedback! I'm in doubt between E-Gmat ($ 299 for Q/V) and Magoosh ($ 149 for Q/V).
Can you give more details about your Magoosh and E-Gmat experience?
Tks a lot
