You should be in a good shape for the Masters programs. Perhaps a bit early to take the most advantage of the MBA experience as Imperial and Judge have a slightly more senior and older class profile but you are still young so you should hopefully only get stronger and better with time.

Hi @minjkey , I hope you are doing well! Your profile demonstrates diverse experience in engineering and procurement within the energy sector. Your GMAT score of 655 is good, but retaking the test to aim for 10 or 20+ points would significantly strengthen your application. Additionally, with only 3 years of work experience, you may benefit from gaining an additional year or more to deepen your leadership exposure and project management skills before applying.

To enhance your profile, you can also consider certifications like Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), or courses in strategic management and data analytics through online platforms. These can demonstrate your readiness for consulting roles and expand your analytical and leadership capabilities.

If an MBA feels premature, you could explore specialized master's programs, such as a Master’s in Management (MiM) or Energy Systems, which align closely with your current industry and career goals. Alternatively, gaining consulting or strategy-related work experience in your current sector could boost your profile for a more impactful MBA application in the future.

If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a 1:1 call with you to learn more about your profile and provide a detailed evaluation. Please feel free to schedule a profile evaluation call according to your convenience.

Hi @Th3lawlrus , I hope all is well! Your profile showcases good no. of years of experience in finance and accounting, supported by your CPA credential, which aligns well with your goal of transitioning into investment banking. However, your undergraduate GPA of 3.13 is on the lower side for competitive MBA programs, making a strong GMAT score (700+) essential to strengthen your application. To further enhance your profile, consider pursuing the CFA designation or completing a Financial Modeling & Valuation Analyst (FMVA) certification to demonstrate your technical expertise. Enrolling in advanced finance courses through online platforms like Coursera or HBS Online can also add value. You can take a look at this BLOG.

Hi @Yeongjun Cha , I hope all is well! Your 5 years of government experience seems to offer unique insights for consulting roles. A decent GPA of 3.4. However, your GMAT Focus score of 605 is below average for competitive MBA programs, and retaking the test to target 655+ would significantly enhance your candidacy. Additionally, highlighting transferable skills like stakeholder management and problem-solving will strengthen your case for transitioning to consulting. You can take a look at this BLOG.

After working for 2.5 years at an S&P 500 company. Gave GMAT focus once got only 545, preparing for it again to hopefully get 615+ score. Don't know if this profile is good enough to get me into an foreign MBA? Open to pursuing a Msc Finance abroad for now.

Hi. Always the higher is score is better - often can result into a scholarship.
However, with only 2-3 years of work experience you are not bringing a whole lot to the program as a resource (if you don't have a high score) so the value will be diminished. MSc is fine and you can even get an MBA after one if you think it is worth the time and $$. The positions you get and directions from MSc and MBA are somewhat different but the inputs are different as well. If you want to be a specialist/finance professional, MSc is probably better, easier, faster, and cheaper.

Hi, thanks for the evaluation. Do you have any suggestions for the best Msc programs that I can apply to in English speaking countries? with a score of 560-610.

16 Jan 2025, 04:06
Hi @Mudit9601 , I hope all is well! Your profile demonstrates a good academic foundation with a GPA of 3.64 and 2.5 years of finance experience at an S&P 500 company is good but on the lower side. Your current GMAT Focus score of 545 limits your competitiveness for top MBA programs. Retaking the GMAT and targeting a score of 655+ will improve your chances. To strengthen your application, focus on showcasing measurable achievements, leadership potential, and a clear post-MBA vision. If reaching a competitive GMAT score remains a challenge, consider taking a look at MSc Finance or MiM at globally recognized institutions like LSE, HEC Paris, Bocconi, or ESSEC. These programs may also align well with your finance background and career goals, offering a strong alternative pathway for career growth. If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a 1:1 call with you to learn more about your profile in detail. Please feel free to schedule a profile evaluation call according to your convenience.

Mudit - the 'for now' phrase seems to suggest that you are willing to compromise with an MSc in something now and then do MBA later. I presume I am wrong, because that would be a flawed plan.
Focus on something that you need, not something you want. Do you need specialization in something or do you need general management skills and capabilities? If the latter, then seeking it just after two-three years of work experience is also a flawed need. It is your effort, time and money that will be involved here. You cannot take it lightly or get it wrong.

I am a driven product development and business strategy professional with a proven track record in managing cross-functional teams, launching new initiatives, and delivering innovative solutions in the telecom and digital sectors. I graduated in 2023 but started my first full-time job in 2022.

Having worked in diverse environments and participated in global programs, I excel at adapting to fast-paced challenges and leveraging cross-cultural collaboration. I have consistently delivered results by focusing on strategic partnerships, customer engagement, and data-driven decision-making.

Coming from a developing country I am aiming for a full-ride scholarship at one of the top universities because I cannot afford to finance the university by myself.

Post-MBA Short-Term Goal:
My short-term goal post-MBA is to transition into a senior brand management role at a global consumer goods company. I aim to apply my product development and business strategy expertise to drive brand innovation and expand market reach.

Post-MBA Long-Term Goal:
In the long term, I aspire to take on a C-suite position in a multinational organization, focusing on strategic growth and global market penetration. Additionally, I plan to use my entrepreneurial experience and leadership skills to mentor startups and contribute to fostering innovative ecosystems in emerging markets.

Region Targeted:
I am primarily targeting the United States and the United Kingdom for my MBA and post-MBA careers due to their dynamic job markets, rich professional networks, and access to top-tier companies in brand management and strategy.

Hi. Great profile - rare demographics, being from Georgia and a woman. One quick suggestion - you may want to pick an industry other than CPG for 2 reasons:
1. This is not a major job placement for post-MBA grads. Salary tend to be lower and companies just don't hire that many post-MBA grads (they absolutely do but nothing compared to Amazon or Deloitte)
2. CPG companies traditionally don't hire internationals and do not sponsor, so as an international candidate this is a dead end unfortunately for the application (you can still pursue your dream, but I would not put it on the application), or at minimum if you do put CPG as the goal, make sure to research which ones do hire internationals - I think Nestle is one of the only ones. Check this topic out: https://gmatclub.com/forum/top-100-h1b- ... 43741.html as well as this one: https://gmatclub.com/forum/top-mba-h1b- ... 43153.html

Thanks so much for the feedback and links.

1. From what I’ve seen, tech companies seem to hire more often—do you think framing my goals around brand management could work better for sponsorship/hiring? Or would it make more sense to focus on something broader like marketing or product management to stay flexible?

2. With my profile and a potential high GMAT score, how realistic do you think full-ride scholarships are? Any tips on what to highlight to make my chances stronger? If you could also maybe suggest a few universities, that would be great.

Really appreciate your thoughts on this and thanks in advance!

Can you draw a straight line between your past career, MBA and post-MBA path? You shouldn't simply change your destinations without this check. From an industry point of view, neither Telecom, nor CPG sponsor H1B / internationals. So focus on the portability of your functional experience. Define your destination first and then work backwards to figure out which schools can take you there, regardless of their brand name or reputation. You do MBA only once (unlike me who did it twice :-))
BTW, as per 2023 petitions data, even Nestle does not sponsor H1B. Happy to speak if you wish to. My background is CPG, Retail and Consulting.

Hi @Anin9 , agreed with bb ! Your profile demonstrates good leadership potential, strategic thinking, and a clear trajectory toward brand management in the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry. With cross-functional and global experience in telecommunications and digital strategy, you bring valuable skills that align with MBA programs focused on innovation and leadership. However, it will be crucial to highlight measurable impact, leadership, and growth in your roles to stand out. Achieving a competitive GMAT score (700+), quantifying your accomplishments, and enhancing your extracurricular profile through leadership activities will further strengthen your application. Please take a look at the class profiles and the employment stats of your target schools and also try to connect with alumns in the same field, this way you'll get great ideas and clarity in building your applications and sorting the post-mba goals accordingly. You may consider MBA programs like Ross, and LBS, which offer robust marketing and leadership development tracks. Alternatively, explore Master’s in Management (MiM) or specialized marketing programs at institutions like HEC Paris and Imperial College London for a more tailored path to your goals. You can take a look at this BLOG. All the very best!

If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a 1:1 call with you to learn more about your profile in detail. Please feel free to schedule a profile evaluation call according to your convenience.

Hey K0102,

Vashi here from LilacBuds.

You have a well balanced profile. GPA is average for the schools you are targeting but good GRE score will boost your chances.
You need to make sure that your application essays reflect your strong professional experience. Your need to play to your strengths. Do make sure that your post-MBA goals are clearly depicted in your application essays and how each specific school will be critical in helping you achieve the same.
Also consider reaching out to alums/ current students of these schools to know more about these programs.
You also need to make sure that your application essays reflect your strong professional experience and take into consideration your leadership skills. Do make sure that your post-MBA goals are clearly depicted in your application essays and how each specific school will be critical in helping you achieve the same.
Your International projects will be of great value and you really need to capitalize on it.

We at LilacBuds would love to assist you by connecting you to alums/ mentors of top B-schools and would therefore request more details about your profile. You can connect with our team for a detailed profile analysis at https://lilacbuds.com/services/mba-cour ... mpaign=GCV or leave a message on +91-84483 35484 for a direct reachout.

Hi @K0102 , I hope you are doing well!

Your profile demonstrates strong work experience in the energy sector, with 6 years of progressively responsible roles, including leadership in procurement and maintenance planning, which highlight your technical expertise and versatility. Your volunteering efforts as a global ambassador for women in engineering and a crisis counselor add depth and showcase your leadership and empathy. However, your current GRE score of 311 is below the average for top programs, targeting 325-330 will significantly enhance your competitiveness. To strengthen your application further, emphasize measurable achievements, leadership in your roles, and the impact of your extracurricular activities. Programs like Kellogg, Darden, Oxford Saïd, HEC Paris, and McCombs may align well with your career goal of transitioning into supply chain within the energy sector. A compelling narrative in your essays and strong recommendations will boost your candidacy for top schools in the U.S., U.K., and France. You can take a look at this BLOG.

Get that target score and then you will have a good profile. School selection is as much a science as an art. You need to triangluate multiple variables to shortlist your schools - it cannot and should not be based on brand name. I would ask you: Why Kellogg and Darden apear in your list, and not WU Olin? And there are more questions, which if ignored, could result in wrong selection that would mean wasted efforts.

730 classic GMAT, 4.5 years of WE at matriculation as a CPG Supply Chain engineer based in north-east US. Graduated with a degree in chemical engineering with a gpa of 3.35 from a known engineering school. Post-MBA goal is to pivot into corporate strategy and focus on sustainability in the CPG supply chain and operations space.

Very high involvement in college ECs (a little too high, maybe a reason for my slightly lower than average GPA also) and continued working with my undergrad institute and other volunteering orgs after graduation as well - so strong ECs as well.

~2 YOE in non-profit consulting for SMEs internationally; last ~3 years at a fast-paced fintech startup. Started as an associate, now lead 40 people across operations and account management (responsible for ~40% annual revenue). Startup focuses on making access to capital easier for SMEs and homeowners. Clients are all kinds of financial institutions in India. Also consulting RBI on development of digital lending platform for India.

Additionally, consulting for a multilateral in Eastern Asia on credit-access for SMEs.

Post MBA is to continue in fintech - joining a firm like Visa / Mastercard in strategy/ops and LT launch an digital transformation accelerator for SMEs in Asia

T2 engg grad (think Manipal/VIT). Low GPA due to health reasons in the first two years. upward trajectory in the last 2 years (~8/10).

ECs -> Started a run club (70+ runs, ~50 participation), have been a musician since undergrad (like 100 performances at festivals and otherwise and plenty of "awards")

Congrats on the profile and Fingers crossed for some interviews!
Startup and consulting should be a good mix and the fact that you have a pretty detailed job plan after graduation - that's awesome! Schools will love it though they have much less influence all the way in Asia (no on campus recruiting but the network should be strong enough). I just would not over-emphasize the network as you don't want them to think you bet all your money on a network that may or may not play out.

Hey BB thanks a bunch for your feedback. I have focused more on the hard skills + ops on the essays with very light inputs on the networking aspects due to this reason.

Do you think the school mix is too ambitious? Low stats has me really worried esp for T15.

In terms of chances, I would say two things which are kind of independent of each other and as always, anything you see on the Internet, take it with a grain of salt, including these comments.

There are basically two gates in the application process and gate one is getting shortlisted for the interview which is where I feel the most people get shut down which may have a great profile but for some stupid reason during the rush of the three weeks after the application applications were submitted, schools miss those great profiles and great applicants perhaps by overly focusing too much on a few quantitative or easy identify things such as demographics.

So I feel which is not a scientific truth or fact but the mere feeling based on a random set of factors that made me feel this way, so I feel that if you can clear the interview stage, you have a really good shot with your background and hopefully essays that are articulated OK. You don’t need to do an amazing job in essays by the way, you just have to be good enough showing that there is more than just what you put on the resume or even that the resume you presented is not embellished beyond belief.

Getting picked for the interview, that’s hard to tell. I think each school has different method for that and some do it better than others but I’ve seen a lot of them missing great applicants or denying them. Just had a conversation about that in the broad MBA chat. People who have been accepted to similarly ranked programs with full scholarships, have been denied without interview in others. There’s really no rhyme or reason but the best thing to do is to apply to as many schools as you can to minimize the chances of something weird happening and also maximize the chances of something weird positive happening. Last year, we had a moderator who got dinged everywhere in all the top 15 but admitted to Kellogg. Frankly, Kellogg made the right choice and all the other ones made a mistake because I knew the individual and they are highly capable. So kudos on applying to whole bunch of programs 👍

Fingers crossed that it all works out in a great way. I wish I could give you a guarantee that these would work out and you would get admitted to all of these. I know many start thinking about applying to lower ranked schools. I would also encourage you to think about it but not applying to programs you’re not willing to attend because that’s a waste of your time and resources, so if you considering top 25 programs, ask yourself if you would attend them and if yes then you can absolutely hedge your bets.
