Instructor Ryan Jacobs
Location San Jose (Milpitas), CA USA
I signed up for the Manhattan GMAT Private tutoring in the beginning of this year and got Ryan Jacobs as my tutor. I was getting 99% in Verbal on the practice test but Math was an issue. We went through the wrong problems in the practice test and areas that I knew I was weak in. He was good in giving explanations about how to solve certain problems that I did not understand even after looking at the solution. Ended up getting a 760.
We met at Hana Haus in Palo Alto (a co-working space). He was not allowed to pay for the quiet rooms (about $30/hr) so I paid for them since it was easier to work without a bunch of distractions. He was allowed to pay for the regular co-working space though and I did see him there with other students so it might be personal preference. I would recommend that Manhattan GMAT allow tutors to pay for that. Makes the tutoring a lot better. Our average sessions were 1.5 hours

this is a brutally honest review of MGMAT Interact, which is basically the 9 week course, and the tutoring sessions offered.
1. I looked at all the interact and attended one trial course. IF YOU ARE SCORING ANYWHERE NEAR 650, I WOULD SAY THE COURSE IS TOO EASY.
2. private tutoring helped a lot. the instructors are obviously knowledgable about the materials. They can help you improve on your areas of weakness, but even then it isnt guaranteed. All test have a very high level of luck. The instructors are also very responsive, ready to answer any questions and provide you with great explanations. The one big con is the price. given that the gmat requires a lot of luck, you have to ask yourself if the price is worth the gamble. But if price isnt a issue, definitely worth taking tutoring courses.
3. the six MGMAT CAT exams...... i hated them . on 2 gmat prep exams, i scored 720. my real score was 720, and 690 before then. out of i think 4 MGMAT exams, I DIDNT SCORE ABOVE 660 ON ONE EXAM. i even scored a 610 on one.... in my opinion the questions are 1. too difficult 2. not accurate reflections of the real test. the MGMAT test actually negatively impacted my mental state, so i decided i wouldnt even review my error log for those test.

Studying for the GMAT was a long and hard journey (as I think it is for a lot of people) but once I got connected with Manhattan Prep, and specifically with their private tutoring, my scores started to improve dramatically.
I jumped in not really knowing what I was doing and signed up for an accelerated Manhattan Prep course without much planning, hoping to crank out a 700 after 8 weeks of studying. Before the course, I took a practice test and got a 540, which terrified me! After the course, I was consistently scoring around 650 but could not get my quant any higher. My tutoring with Dan was great because we could focus so specifically on the quant and my weak areas, versus paying for a course where I had to sit through verbal lessons that were much easier for me. If you are struggling with one side more than the other, the private tutoring is great for personalizing your studying. Dan was so knowledgeable, helpful, and really kept me accountable for my studying. It was a great experience!

Noah was an incredibly dedicated tutor. He helped me to achieve a higher score and boost my confidence for the MBA application journey. Noah was always well prepared for our sessions, readily available in between sessions, often checked in on me in between sessions, and held me accountable to the work assigned. Noah took the time to get to know me and my working style to best understand how to help me learn and retain information as the GMAT is not a one size fits all study method. He not only helped me learn the logic and material, but helped teach me stress management techniques, study techniques, test preparedness, and mindfulness techniques. Noah was an all around resource for me during this time as a tutor and, as I like to call it, a "therapist". Noah helped me increase me score by 40 points, which got me into a top MBA program. I am extremely grateful to Noah and credit a large part of my acceptance to a top MBA program to Noah.

I scored a 710 on the first attempt of GMAT but felt that it wasn't adequate for the schools I was aiming for. To get that extra push and target my weaknesses I opted for the Manhattan Prep GMAT 10 hour tutoring session. From the first hour itself I could see a remarkable change in the way I approached problems especially in the verbal section where I needed the most improvement. Josh guided me through the difficult concepts like divisibility, number properties, permutations and combinations by providing me with material with challenging questions and explaining concepts in a clear manner. He taught me the right way to approach critical reasoning problems which was my main area of concern. He also helped me get over my test anxiety which usually used to hamper my concentration to a large extent. The Manhattan Prep GMAT Strategy guides and the practice exams also were very helpful though the quant section in the practice exams was a little harder than the actual GMAT level and can demoralize you at times. But on the whole it was an excellent experience working with Josh and Manhattan Prep GMAT and the results are evident from a score of 740 in the second attempt.

I got a 680 on my first GMAT exam in October, then proceeded to study as hard as I could in hopes of breaking the 700 barrier. After 4-5 straight practice exams getting a 680/690, I decided I needed professional. Chris was recommended to me buy a good friend (he helped her get a 730) and he did wonders in just a couple short sessions. He recognized SC as the quickest way to bump my score. We spent the majority of the time focusing on breaking down challenging SC questions that I struggled with during past practice exams and problem sets. At the very end, we touched on some CR strategy. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my score and the impact that he was able to make in such a short time. I will certainly be recommending him to anyone I know trying to increase their score ASAP.

My score is testament to Chris' phenomenal talent as a tutor. I took his GMAT class in addition to private tutoring. Having a time and quant intensive job, he was quickly able to identify my weaknesses, teach me powerful test taking strategies, and was incredibly patient throughout the 8 months it took me to prepare for the GMAT. Furthermore, after a few tough practice tests, he was constantly thinking of ways to help me achieve my goals even when I was ready to give up. He consistently offered creative solutions and was always responsive. Overall, my score improved 100+ points from my first practice test and I am able to apply to all of my dream schools. I cannot recommend Chris highly enough.

Before working with Chris, I took a GMAT course with Kaplan, and scored a mediocre 650 on the GMAT. I hit a wall and did not know how I was going to increase my score. My friend referred me to a private instructor, Chris, at Manhattan GMAT, and Chris turned out to be my savior.
Chris was easily able to identify my weaknesses (sentence correction, critical reasoning, and some of the challenging math questions). His different studying techniques and ways of approaching problems were something that I hadn't come across as I scoured the internet for GMAT study tips. Specifically, his methodology for approaching SC and CR problems was unparalleled, and Chris was actually able to turn my weaknesses into strengths. Another key differentiator for Chris, he was able to give me vital tips on how to manage my time during the stress filled quant section of the exam.
After spending the time with Chris, I was confident, and I knew that I had been prepared with the best tools to take on the exam. Exceeding my goal on the exam by scoring a 760 (50 Q 41V), I was ecstatic and now knew that my GMAT would be a strength in my MBA application process.
Thank you Chris, you are a legend!

I originally took the Manhattan GMAT 9 week course; very disappointed by that experience. My score did not improve and I was left very frustrated by the experience. However, I came to realize that I need more personal attention, so I gave Manhattan GMAT another chance and signed up for private tutoring. Joe Lucero turned out to be a Godsend, as my score began to steadily improve. Quant was my weak area, and he provided countless tools and strategies that helped bump my score up significantly by the end of our time together. I am so glad I took the time and money to continue at improving my score - the result was an increase from 620 on my first practice test to a 700 on test day. Thanks Manhattan GMAT!

I used Chris ~2 hours each Sunday for 4 weeks leading up to my second GMAT. I had taken the GMAT once in July after studying for two months and received a lower score than anticipated. I realized that I was nervous and my timing was all off. I met with Chris and explained what I felt I needed (e.g., help with timing, some common frameworks to apply and just general cheerleading). He understood me and my learning style immediately and from the first lesson helped me focus on target areas and study smarter. He helped me figure out my study plan each week and set target dates and scores for CATs. I told him my goal was to break 700 but he felt I could aim higher. Two weeks before retaking the GMAT, I was already breaking 700 on the CATs. He showed me how to improve my timing and just made me feel much more confident in myself and my abilities. I took the GMAT a second time at the end of October and felt so much more confident and in control than I had the first time. Chris had confidence in me and told me that as long I felt well and was well rested I would break 700. I got a 730 and couldn't be happier. I can't recommend Chris enough - even minimal time with him can have a big impact.
I agree about the unrealistic MGMAT practice exams. With a few exceptions, there is no need to practice on anything other than real GMAT questions / practice tests.
My experience with the MGMAT practice exam was similar: pathetic. The MGMAT exams are completely useless.
