I have been using Magoosh for about 6 months now and I find the videos very informative. I think Mike is a great teacher who really knows how to explain new concepts in a slow way so students won't get lost. The quantitative section is pretty good but the best section was the very detailed sentence correction. Lots of videos with lots of explanations and helpful hints and tricks on how to approach SC problems. I actually learned the most from watching the SC videos although SC was already my strongest part of the GMAT.
One of the biggest assets from Magoosh were the thousands of questions one could sort by topic and difficulty level. I really liked having this kind of flexibility. The interface of the platform was super easy to use.
Sometimes it seemed like Kevin or the other guy (can't remember the name) sort of rushed through the video explanation... especially for CR and RC. The explanations often sounded like this: "Well, it's not A nor C, and it's definitely not D so when we look at B and E we have to pick B because that's just the right answer." :)
Magoosh was my first online course I worked through in addition to OG, and Manhattan strategy guides and I would definitely recommend the course to anyone who is just starting out. You get more than enough for your money!
Another big plus I want to point out is the EXCELLENT customer service of Magoosh. They rock! They really try hard to provide a satisfying answer to your questions and send additional material that may help you. Customer service is GREAT!
The downside of it all is that my score improved by only 20 points. I did pick up a few points in quant but nothing in verbal.
I have now decided to give another company a try and see how their on-demand course works and then compare the results to what I got with Magoosh.
In summary, I was actually pretty satisfied with the Magoosh course and I still use their question banks for practice. They really have hundreds or even close to 1000 practice questions.
I highly recommend the Magoosh course.
I signed up for the Premium package (Quant + Verbal). Both the sections were taught right from the very basics, which really helped because I realized a lot of fundamentals were out of place.
The Verbal section in particular was very detailed, with typical mistake patterns highlighted. This helps tremendously because the verbal part of the exam is quite fast-paced (in my opinion).
Quant thoroughly covered all concepts, but I would say it was a little more on the basic side. I did practice some additional tougher sums from other books.
Overall, great material. Definitely recommend it.
I bought Magoosh after trying out friend's account. I loved the videos, I do wish that I spent more than 3 weeks studying with this program. I really thought the teacher was super informative and had great techniques. This is not a crash study course, or a get rich quick, you really need to take your time. It helps improve scores, however, I did not take the exam before studying. A friend of mine who did spend more time and effort increased her score by 70points and scored over a 600. I did not use the verbal portion mainly because I didn't have enough time to study for that portion.
I used Magoosh in addition to another provider for extra GMAT practice. In general, I found Magoosh material to be excellent. One of the best features of this program the short video format employed by Magoosh. This format allows users to pick out specific areas of weaknesses or particular concepts that need reinforcement, rather than watch the entire length of a video on algebra when all you needed was a quick refresher on a specific rule on algebra.
I found Magoosh to be great in both verbal and quant and believe that while Magoosh filled in knowledge gaps for me, it would be an excellent stand alone program for students who only wanted to purchase a single program. It is highly affordable and would probably be one of the best value for money programs available.
Great product with an ever better price.
I got the premium subscription, and it was so worth it. The best part is the videos on every single concept that is on the test. I loved the math tricks too they teach you, such as doing mental math with large numbers. My score was 540 when I took it in January, after Magoosh I got a 610. The price is reasonable for everything you get and they even have a score gaurantee so if you dont increase your score at least 50 points, you get a full refund. I didnt even finish the course, so if I would have finished it im sure I could have gotten an even higher score. Bottom line, get Magoosh and that is all you need!
I signed up for Magoosh just two weeks before my test. I originally planned on using it just for the extra practice exams, but ended up using it for extra review on a few topics I hadn't worked with since grade school. The videos that they have are awesome - a bit slow and dry, maybe, but they definitely get to the key concepts.
The math tests were much easier than the Manhattan GMAT tests (which were harder than the real test), but it was still good practice for the real thing.
I didn't poke around too much in the verbal stuff, but from what I did see it didn't seem to be at the same level as the math section or the Manhattan GMAT verbal section.
Magoosh is an incredible product and I would recommend that anyone who is seriously considering a major score bump on the GMAT invest in it. It is completely comprehensive, everything you need to do well on the test will be shown to you throughout the course and you also have access to over 1,000 high-quality practice problems each with their own video explanation. That level of detail just isn't something that you get when you buy a book, like one by PR or Kaplan. Mike is an amazing teacher and will make the beast that is the GMAT seem much more tame. I went from a 650 to a 790 in roughly 4 months using the Magoosh study plans and I genuinely believe anyone else can do the same if they put in the work with these products. Buy Magoosh, you won't regret it.
I have gone through the magoosh prep course.
For SC It was helpful in identifying the splits. The Example discussed were very good. Topics like parallellism, modifiers, comparisons are well disccused in detail.
For CR the approach helped me to reduce the time for selecting the right options and to avoid confuse between the answer choices.
For RC it was helpfull to breakdown the passage. So i was able to solve all OG question
Tuesadays with Kevin is also a good resource which one can loo into..
For Beginners especially Magoosh would be good enough to start with and they can easily see score improvements upto 20 points.
Thanks to team magoosh
I took Magoosh to boost my GMAT Quant. I was very impressed with the in-depth analysis and strategic method of teaching. I would recommend it to students who are looking to gain a stronger understanding of quant topics. My weak areas were Algebraic Translations, Geometry, Probability and Combinatorics, Weighted Averages and Number Properties. I spent some time reviewing concepts and then did timed practice using OG and GMAT Club. Magoosh played a major role in inculcating more confidence in my quant abilities going into the GMAT. I did not have much time but if you have 2+ months, this course is ideal to brush up rusty concepts. It is definitely worth the buy. Good luck!
firstly I read the reviews and decided to chose Magoosh. I was hesitating because I had no idea about online courses. My score was around 540. I did not expect a high score. But anyways, I registered and I do not regret! Yes, a lot of the information Magoosh provided is not on the books and the tactics really work (Especially in analytical writing). I am not a good writer at all but my AWA score is 5.00. I worked 7 months. I wathced all videos. And the result? My GMAT score is 710. Still I could not believe that I got this score because I am not a native speaker.
Thank you Magoosh and thank you Mike McGary. You are the best.
Hi,
I am just starting out on the GMAT prep and in the process of reviewing prep material. You wrote you were about to give some other company a try after Magoosh. Would really appreciate if you share your experience about any other study material from another company and how you found it compared to Magoosh.
Thanks,
