Course Manhattan Prep Manhattan GMAT Private Tutoring

Instructor Dmitry Farber

Location Victoria, Canada

The first time I took the GMAT, I scored 630(50Q, 25V).
I was scheduled to rewrite the test in 4 weeks. I needed a score of 700+. I contacted Manhattan GMAT.

I worked with Dimitry Farber, my private tutor, for 7 sessions, and we revamped my reading skills for RC, as well as my CR and SC skills. On the exam day I scored a 700(50Q, 35V).

Manhattan GMAT is simply the best study guide. The tutors (specifically Dimitry) are educated and well prepared. Dimitry taught me how to read RC passages, get the big picture, and identify the author's voice. He also taught me to find the answers to CR questions through MOE and to identify premises and their roles with respect to the conclusion, to find a gap in assumption questions, and to find 'a' conclusion for inference questions. Manhattan GMAT SC guide is very thorough and one can never go wrong using it. Dimitry and Manhattan GMAT also taught me about Timing Strategies and Strategic Guessing through out the exam.

A good understanding of verbal really helps with business education. Invest in understanding GMAT via Manhattan GMAT and it will serve you well in the long run.

Cheers :)

I took the 9-Week Live Online Manhattan GMAT course last winter with JR Tomkinson and Tommy Wallach. I really did not know much, if anything, about the GMAT prior to signing up for the course, and needless to say, they cover just about everything that you will see on the test.

I did, however, drop the ball and did not take the GMAT again until the middle of November. I used all of the class materials, notes, CATs, OG Archer (their official guide explanations, also keeps track of your timing, etc.), books, etc. -- pretty much everything they had in the Student Center.

I did not do as well on the Quant as I would have liked the first time around (November 2013), so I signed for 10 hours of online tutoring with Dmitry Farber. Dmitry was able to hone in on some thematic issues I was having on the Quant and gave me several different approaches to use with a variety of Quant problems. With his help, I was able to bump both my Quant and Verbal scores up, with my Quant going up significantly, in just the 32 or so days between tests.

If you are looking to get above a 700 on the GMAT, Manhattan GMAT is definitely the company to choose. It is not the cheapest on the market, but certainly the best - and you receive a TON of resources. I have always had difficulty with standardized tests, and after using MGMAT Prep, I scored in the 98th percentile!

Very methodical organized instruction. Included with their live online classes and tutors are practice tests, practice problems, tips, application suggestions, etc. The company gives a real holistic overview of not just the GMAT, but the entire MBA application process.

Their customer assistance is fantastic, and it is so easy to tailor the tutoring sessions or self-studying schedule to your specific needs. Dmitry Farber is a fantastic tutor -- patient, personable, and very encouraging.

High high high recommendation!

Before attending the course, I purchased the entire Manhattan GMAT book series to include the Advanced Quant book. I slowly studied the books for several months prior to attending the 9-session course. I believe this course of study was somewhat flawed. I found myself teaching myself fundamental concepts from the books that the course later reiterated. I recommend that people attend the course and then study independently with the books prior to taking the test.

I used the CAT exams offered on the MGMAT site, and they were very beneficial. My scores on my practice tests were below my score on test day.

CAT 1: 570 (35% Q, 69% V)
CAT 2: 640 (63% Q, 75% V)
CAT 3: 670 (64% Q, 84% V)
CAT 4: 650 (55% Q, 85% V)

On my last CAT, prior to the test, my score dropped to a 650, which was pretty discouraging, but I decided to take the test anyway and not focus on my latest CAT.

The Manhattan GMAT website is very comprehensive and has a myriad of resources that I found myself exploring frequently.

Private tutoring with Dmitry, my MGMAT instructor, was what I found most beneficial during my studies. I had several tutoring sessions prior to my test.
