Avi Gutman Reviews

Company: Manhattan Prep

Avi has been teaching test prep since 2004; he earned his MBA at NYU Stern, and worked for the world's largest hedge fund before realizing that with a 760 GMAT he could do what he loves on a full-time basis.

Avi was born in Cambridge, England to a Scottish Mom and a Moldovan Dad, and made his first international move when he was one year old. Growing up in Israel, Avi maintained separate languages for communicating with each of his parents, and doing so helped him on the path to become an international man of mystery.

While his friends at school were playing soccer, Avi was busy building makeshift hockey sticks out of empty water bottles with his brother Yoni, making the Gutman brothers arguably Israel's first hockey players. When, a few years later Avi picked up snowboarding, it became clear that Canada was in his cards. Indeed, as soon as Avi graduated from Israel's 'MIT', he moved to Calgary and got certified as a Snowboarding Instructor.

Avi took his first GMAT while teaching for the Israeli SATs, and scored 99th percentile on his first attempt. While at Stern, he took on the position of teaching fellow and taught his classmates several courses including Operations, Foundations of Finance, and New Venture Financing. Ever since joining Manhattan GMAT, Avi has made GMAT his day job – teaching courses, tutoring, and he does these things with an unparalleled level of passion and expertise. But don't take our word for it here's what his students are saying about him.

I tried to study for the GMAT on my own because I thought the course was way too expensive and not worth it. But I ended wasting my time and money, because I didn't even write the exam the first time. I was hovering around 580 and I couldn't get my score any higher. I postponed the exam for 6 months. I sucked it up and enrolled with MGMAT after thoroughly researching several prep courses and attending each of their trial classes.

I had Avi as my instructor and he was absolutely amazing! He was such a dynamic instructor, he was able to make the course material interesting and fun(?). He was able to explain concepts in multiple ways so that if you are stuck on one method, he could save you with another. Not only was he available after class to answer questions, he also responded to emails during the week within an hour! I thought was true dedication of an instructor that cared about my success!

In the end, I am really glad I enrolled with MGMAT. They helped me improve my score by 100 points! If you are serious about going to business school, which is $100k in tuition, then another few thousand bucks is nothing compared to the gains that you will reap in at the end.

I used the MGMAT course to start studying for the GMAT. I found their guides and live classes to be extremely helpful. Their written guides cover each topic individually, while the classes go into OG specific problems related to that weeks topic.

The instructors are charismatic and engaging. I would highly recommend this course. If you don't want to take classes I would then suggest you at least get the guides from MGMAT.
