I found Magoosh material decent enough to kickstart my preparation with. The numerous videos and questions provide ample concepts and practice.
It allows resetting question bank which is a good option to retake tests. I found the Idioms handbook pretty useful. The flashcards is an interesting way to learn while relaxing your mind from the usual ways of learning.
But the difficulty level is on the lower side. So, I further used Manhattan books in addition to OG content to further my preparation.
I will recommend this course to those who want to start their preparation from the very basics.
I purchased the Magoosh Premium product after a short experience with it through a GMATClub trial.
What first attracted me to Magoosh was the guide - a clear 3 month plan that I could follow right up till the day I wrote. It was a plan that required a lot of work but one that was also flexible which was great for me a my job has irregular and often long hours.
The video lessons are really helpful and explain every aspects of a section in detail. At times it goes too much into the basics so its advisable to use your discretion about which videos you watch.
The best part of Magoosh is the question bank. Its got a good variety of questions of all levels on both the quant and verbal side. (although I would say the very hard questions were much harder than anything I experienced in the test). I appreciated the detailed answer analysis as well for each question, which went beyond a simple text explanation and actually had a video for every question and made it easier to understand the really difficult questions.
I used Magoosh in conjunction with another product but after a few weeks, I focused on Magoosh and am really happy that I did so.
This service was a game changer for me. I increased my score by 70 points from my first GMAT. I found the lessons were more specific and I was able to focus more time on those areas that I felt I needed extra practice. This allowed to target the areas that I need to improve on. After doing their list of problems, I felt their score estimator was quite accurate. The only downside I found was the rather monotonous voice that reads each of the lessons. It was very scripted and I would have to take breaks just to maintain my focus.
I purchased the Magoosh Premium program. I had heard from a friend that it was an essential study help and that it was extremely affordable. With that background I pulled the trigger and got started. I had less than two months to study (and my wife was pregnant, which didn't make things easier). I watched all of the Quantitative videos and did about 400 practice questions on Magoosh. When I took my first practice GMAT exam I scored a 590, with verbal in the 90th percentile and quant in the 30th percentile... I obviously needed to focus on the quantitative section. After my many hours of study, I ended up with a 46 on quant, which was amazing for me. My final score was a 690. I'm certain that I couldn't have done it without Magoosh.
arguably one of the best resource available in the market. It costs you 149$ but its worth every penny. Magoosh contains easy to understand video lessons covering every concept you encounter in real GMAT, the strategies are highly useful and with premium subscription of Magoosh gives you access to more than 1000 questions where each and every question is followed by a video explanation. In addition to all these, they have a fantastic email support by which you can clarify any of your doubts , they reply to you in less than 24 hours. Magoosh questions are of same toughness level as of real GMAT. Study schedules in Magoosh can be a lifesaver who were lost in preparation . I followed 90 day study plan verbal focussed , likewise there are other study plans which you can chose on your requirement. Magoosh Support is the best.
I had taken the Magoosh Premium Course to start my preparation for the GMAT test. It was referred to me by a friend who was able to get a 750 course using this series. Even though I got a score of only 640, the course was very helpful in making me understand the basic concepts. It was the right starting foundation which helped me in my further preparation. I complemented it with OG and Manhattan mocks. The videos were very helpful in helping me get my fundamentals clear. But the best part of Magoosh course are the online video explanations which keep the users engaged.
The Verbal videos of the product are really good. The verbal questions were also good, but not close to the official questions. The tagging of questions and videos is a good feature.
Coming to the Quant part, the videos have lot of detail. Some might feel that the videos are too lengthy. The questions are either easy or hard. There are few GMAT 700 level questions.
Overall, this is very good for the preparation. For questions, esp. Verbal, please don't go beyond the official questions.
Also, the study plan offered by Magoosh is really good (if you can follow the same).
Considering the Value for Money, I guess this is the best product out there.
I used Magoosh for practice in timed manner and am really satisfied with the program. The test setting is real and questions are of moderate level. Verbal questions are pretty close to real exam and are created with high quality explanation. I must say it is closer to test than Kaplan or Princeton Review. The notes section may ve not as useful as I thought but the explanation videos are very helpful. I find how Magoosh teachers read, underline and talk about the thoughts while solving questions particularly easy to understand and effective in helping me understand how to answer questions better.
Also big thanks to Magoosh staff who helped me to extend my subscription to study for exam!
I took the gmat back in February 2017. I used the Magoosh premium product that i got from a promotion. For quant i relied solely on magoosh and i didnt even study the official guide. I left the OG for the last moment and then i skipped it. I got a Q47 only with magoosh. I used it mostly for quant in fact. The course has many theory videos that i revised 2-3 times. The course IMO is designed for beginners up to a level of Q48-49. The thing is that they are very good for this. Not all people out there are looking for a 760 and for them there is totally no reason to work on questions they will never see on the gmat. So magoosh has only some 760 level questions that a 650-700 level test taker will never face on the gmat. Someone who wants a score like that will save a lot of money if they buy magoosh and practise from it and the OG. Its not unlikely that you will get a higher score with this product, but i didnt. The course has around 700(this is only for quant) questions to practise with Video explanations that are very refreshing. I used the verbal part for practising questions from the verbal question bank. Also helpful. Generally, their practice platrform is very well designed and can help you make the quizzes you want to make, find your strenghts and zero in your weakensses.
The email support is just amazing. They will answer every question you have in regards of explaining a question or what fiction books to read for verbal practise. Their team is always there for you. (and this is rare out there especially at this price)
The course is provided for 1 year. This is special because most companies will ask a lot more money for only 3-6 months.
In the end of my 1 year subscription they were very generous to offer me a free 1 month extension until my exam !
It's a great course but it can do some things to improve. If the team adds more questions (they add questions every now and then ) the product will be even better. Also maybe they should allow students to comment under the videos and get answers from the instructors !
Overall,great price-quality relationship !
I have taken the Magoosh Premium subscription form Nov 2016.
I have not been disappointed.
The lessons are complete and they try to break down each and every concept so that everyone could understand it.
The practice problems can be tailored to suit your preparations.
They provide some (not many) shortcut approach to solving quant. It is a comprehensive course with excellent synthetic question bank. It has a very comprehensive question bank with 500+ questions in both Verbal and Quant. EVERY question comes with a video explanation, which I think is not mirrored anywhere else. Apart from their online course, Magoosh has an array of mobile apps (Android, dunno about IOS) which can make learning fun while commuting from work. Add to that a robust email based support system, you can hardly go wrong.
NOW, The deficits:
1. The verbal course, SC is not as good for a non native speaker as some other courses are. Critical reasoning is average, not comprehensive.
2. Quant does not focus on what gmat focuses on. No special emphasis on number properties, statistics, etc.
3. The questions are not characterized by the scores they reflect. They are grouped into Easy, Medium, Hard, Very Hard.
All in all its a good course to start your preparation with, but somewhere down the line, you will require a booster.
Hi,
When you say not to go beyond official questions for verbal. What do you mean? I just verbal the verbal section of Magoosh and wanted to check if the questions were good enough.
Please share your advice here. :)
Thanks
Dev
The Official questions are the best for Verbal preparation. Other products do not match them - by that I mean the framing of the answer options, the language and the tone.
